Before you begin

Before you install your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired:

Install your doorbell

The Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired replaces your existing doorbell. You must connect your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired to a 2.4GHz WiFi network.

To install your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired:

  1. Remove your existing doorbell from the wall.
  2. Disconnect the wires from your existing doorbell.
(Note: Make sure the wires don’t fall inside the wall when you disconnect them from your existing doorbell. You can temporarily tape the wires to the wall to prevent this.)
  3. Install your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired with or without the mounting wedge that came in the box.
  • The mounting wedge helps you angle your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired left or right, depending on the position of your doorbell and the walkway to your door.
  • Turn on your power at the breaker.
  • Check that the LED on the front of your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired is white.
  • If the LED is solid amber, ensure that your doorbell transformer supplies a voltage of 16-24V AC. If your doorbell transformer is not the correct voltage level, you might need to activate bypass mode on the Arlo Power Kit. For more information about activating bypass mode, visit How do I turn on bypass mode for my Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired?.
  • If the LED is off, the doorbell might be booting up. Wait up to a minute before troubleshooting. If the LED doesn’t light after one minute, the doorbell is not receiving power. Turn off the power at the breaker, and recheck the wiring.
  • If the LED is alternating amber and white, the operating temperature or voltage is too low. Wait up to 13 minutes for the doorbell to warm up.
  • Use the Arlo app to connect your Arlo Video Doorbell to your 2.4GHz WiFi network.
You are ready to operate your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired.
